Catering and chance
So, Jimmy Pham happened to be on a visit to the UK. He lives in Hanoi.
He happened to be spending the day with Matthew Parsfield, part of Students Supporting Street Kids.
We happened to have a meeting with Matthew in the diary so Jimmy came along.
And now, we have an inspirational catering crew on board for the event.
Jimmy is the founder of Koto, an organisation working to give street kids in Hanoi, Vietnam, a future. They train young people in catering, running a restaurant to give work experience to their graduates. It’s a life-changing programme, working with street children in a practical, creative way. It’s part of our aim to showcase creative, successful programmes which celebrate the talents and potential of street children. So Koto are going to come to the Street Child World Cup, providing great food – and more importantly providing great inspiration by enabling their graduates to tell their stories. Their stories show how innovative – and sometimes very simple – projects can enable young people to realise their potential.
This kind of chance encounter gives a great chilli kick of encouragement to the more normal hard graft of meeting, research, discussion, negotiation. What is it they say? Inspiration and perspiration. I’m sure they have to work together in football – and they’re certainly both needed in this project.
